2023 Listening Biennial – Tambayan
I was invited by Associate Professor Dr Dayang Yraola of the University of the Phillipines in Manila to participate in the 2nd edition of the international Listening Biennial curated by Guely Morato (Bolivia), Luísa Santos (Portugal), Rayya Badran (Lebanon) and Dr Yraola.
Dayang coordinated a week-long Tambayan series where various artists spoke about and presented listening experiences of their work. Tambayan is a Filipino word for a casual place to hang out, catch up and chat. The session in which I presented online to a live audience on 10 July was titled ‘Listening in/to art in/and/with technology’. Fellow presenters were Dr Diego Maranan, Associate Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communications Studies at the University of the Philippines Open University, and Singapore-based artist collective The Observatory.
